Go for Launch!

I’m thrilled to announce that “Sirocco,” the sequel to “St. Nicholas Salvage & Wrecking,” is set to debut on Jan. 26!

In a normal year, that would mean a book launch at one of Portland’s famous independent bookstores. (Hint: this isn’t a normal year.)

Instead, we’ll be doing a virtual launch!

Thanks to the good people at Annie Bloom’s Books, we’ll do a video launch party! It’s set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28. Annie Bloom’s and I will distribute login information as we get nearer.

I’ll talk about the book and about the research Katy King and I did — mostly in Spain — for this one. We’ll have our own glass of wine, of course. Hey, it’s a book launch. Traditions are important. Feel free to join us.

As those of you who’ve attended any book event at Annie Bloom’s know, Molly the shop cat likes to languidly stroll through the middle of the author’s presentation, usually right in the middle of an anecdote, and thus steal every single eye in the room. It’s her power move. We have no idea how Molly intends to pull it off this time, but we have every confidence in her. Our cat, Violet, has been in email contact with Molly, so we’re fairly sure something’s in the works.

Here’s the Zoom link to register for the launch.

The Book

The new novel, from Blackstone Publishing, follows the further adventures of ex-cop Michael Finnigan and ex-spook Katalin Fiero Dahar, whose dangerous and illegal business is rounding up the worst of the world’s worst criminals and delivering them to the International Criminal Court.

This time, a serial bomber is wreaking havoc throughout Europe, and Finnigan and Fiero may be the only ones who can stop the carnage while staying firmly under the radar. But as they draw ever closer to the bombers, and as the terrorism sweeps up Fiero’s own family, the partners have to decide if they can continue to operate in the shadows. As they learn who they can — and can’t — trust, they come face-to-face with shocking secrets at the highest echelons of the world’s intelligence communities.

If you buy a book through Annie Bloom’s, I’ll sign a bookplate to be inserted before it gets shipped out (or before pickup, if you live in the Portland area). The signature can be personalized, too. We’ll figure out the details when we all talk via video on Jan. 28!

The Audio Book

This is my eighth novel and I’m over the moon about it. I also get to announce that the awesome Victor Bevine is narrating the audio book! Victor, an actor and a successful author in his own right, also narrated “St. Nicholas.” It’s an honor to work with him again!

(Not for nothing, but Victor narrated “The Mueller Report: The Findings of the Special Counsel Investigation.” It’s with no little ego that I say my book has a much better Act III than that one.)

Feel free to reach out to me — jdchaynes@gmail.com — or to Annie Bloom’s to RSVP for the book launch. I’ll have more details on my website as we draw closer.

We’re so jacked about this!

See you then.
